Author of The Nightbound Crown

S. B. Collins

Dark magic. Defiant women. Beautifully complicated stories.

Welcome to a world where crowns are earned in blood, magic always has a price, and the women at the centre of the story have absolutely no intention of behaving themselves.

My debut novel and the first book in The Nightbound Crown, where the magic is old, the secrets are dangerous, and absolutely nobody seems capable of making a sensible decision when it matters most. I would apologize for what I put my characters through, but we all know I'd be lying.

The woman behind the chaos

Portrait of author S. B. Collins smiling, chin resting on her hand, in front of a bookshelf

Hi, I'm S. B. Collins, and I write books about dangerous magic, complicated people, ancient secrets, and women who have absolutely no intention of behaving themselves.

Which, now that I think about it, probably says something about me.

I'm an author, psychotherapist, mom, military spouse, and general wrangler of chaos. I survive on caffeine, sarcasm, an unreasonable number of creative projects, and the increasingly delusional belief that one day my life might actually be organized. It's adorable that I keep thinking that, really.

I've always loved stories, particularly the ones that aren't afraid to get a little dark. Give me morally grey characters, ancient mythology, dangerous bargains, complicated relationships, and a heroine who would rather burn the whole damn system down than politely accept her place in it. I want magic with consequences, love that isn't always easy, and characters who are gloriously, painfully human, even when they aren't technically human at all.

A Few Things You Should Probably Know About Me

  1. 01

I have an unreasonable number of creative projects on the go, and I keep discovering new hobbies I absolutely do not have time for.

  2. 02

I survive on caffeine and sarcasm. The coffee is probably cold.

  3. 03

Ancient Celtic mythology one minute, baseball the next. My brain has range.

  4. 04

My household is run by an assortment of furry creatures who are convinced they're in charge. They're not wrong.

  5. 05

I get emotionally attached to fictional people, then put them through absolute hell. I'd apologize, but I'd be lying.

  6. 06

By day I'm a psychotherapist, so yes, I'm fully aware my characters need therapy. Most of them do.

Why I Love Writing Morally Grey Characters

Perfect heroes are lovely. But give me someone with questionable judgment, complicated loyalties, and a spectacular talent for making everything worse.

Mythology & Folklore

Ancient Myths, Dark Magic, and Other Perfectly Normal Obsessions

Some people collect shoes. I collect mythological rabbit holes, ancient legends, and enough story ideas to guarantee I'll never have a normal sleep schedule.

Coffee, Chaos, and the Completely Reasonable Life of a Writer

Between writing, family life, furry household supervisors, and approximately a thousand creative ideas, organization remains a beautiful and entirely fictional concept.
